COURSE OBJECTIVES

· Knowledge on how to prepare finite element models for simulation and optimization process using functional generative design.

COURSE OUTCOME

1. Conduct physically realistic, process-based simulation of a part to be manufactured by 3D printing.

2. Leverage: build environment, geometric support, slicing thickness & laser scan path data.

3. Capture the heat transfer and phase transformation of materials during the printing process.

4. Cooling and radiation between the different layers are captured by using the evolving free surface definitions to define convection and radiation properties.

5. In-service loading of as-printed parts including residual stress history can be predicted to validate load capacity, flexibility, and service life.
